Beschreibung von buecher.de

A classic work of religious philosophy, 'Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion' is David Hume's examination of the nature of God. David Hume's philosophy, empiricism, rests upon the idea that all rational belief must be supported by experiential evidence. It is within the scope of this philosophy that Hume examines the nature of God and asks the question as to whether or not man's belief in God can be supported by experience. This exposition takes place in the guise of a dialogue between three characters who each take different points of view on the subject. 'Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion' is an interesting examination of faith from a philosophical perspective and a must read for any student of philosophy or religion.

5 von 5 Sternen A shattering blow to theistic rationalism

The last word on the question of whether or not the universe was the product of a creative intelligence. Not only is it a profound challenge to the belief in divine causality, which is to say, the view that the universe was the result of design, but it even impells the atheist to question the foundations of his own position. A landmark in the history of the philosophy of religion.

5 von 5 Sternen Philosophy can be amusing!

I still smile and have to suppress a chuckle every time I remember the line about the world being the product of an infant deity, or one in its dotage. Give this very readable book to any Bible readers or creationists that you know.
