Bark, George,'' says George's mother, and George goes: ''Meow,'' which definitely isn't right, because George is a dog.

And so is his mother, who repeats, ''Bark, George.'' And George goes, ''Quack, quack.''

What's going on with George? Find out in this hilarious new picture book from Jules Feiffer.

When George's mother tells her son to bark, he meows. She patiently explains that "Cats go meow. Dogs go arf. Now, bark, George." But he quacks! Then oinks. Then moos. Becoming less patient and more exasperated, George's mom takes him to the vet, who reaches deep down inside the errant pup, and, much to everyone's surprise, pulls out a cat! Then a duck, a pig and finally a cow. George is cured, and barks at last! On the way home, his proud mother wants to show off her convincingly dog-like son to everyone on the street. But when she says, "Bark, George," he simply says, "Hello." This is the simplest offering yet from Jules Feiffer--creator of the delightful picture books Meanwhile and I Lost My Bear. Still, his cartoonish drawings are intensely expressive, alive and hilarious, and none of it will be lost on the youngest of readers who will giggle every time George fails to bark--every time the vet extracts a new animal--and at the final punchline, too. In a world of often overdone or underdone picture books, this fine Feiffer creation is just right.(Age 2 and older) --Karin Snelson

5 von 5 Sternen Fantastic!

My 3-year-pld granddaughter loves this book! On the day I gave it to her, she had to have it read to her 10 times. She likes to say the animal sounds along with the reader and just laughs and laughs at the ending! I know any toddler would love this book.

5 von 5 Sternen My 10-month-old son loves it!

I love to read, so I was thrilled when my son started to show an interest in books -- tearing them and turning the pages, that is. Until we got Bark, George. He loves this book! If he sees the cover, it has to be read and it has to be read many times! I have read this book six times in one day before. He sits nicely and listens -- almost impossible for a toddler! We have bought two more copies of this book -- one to keep for him for when he gets older and one for a future sibling!

5 von 5 Sternen A great read for kids!

My class loved this book! The librarian at our school read it to them, and now that's all they want to hear every Monday at library time. I intend to purchase a copy for my classroom.

5 von 5 Sternen Loved by the whole family

My reputation as the "uncle with the knack for picking good children's books" remains intact after I sent this book to a not-quite-two-year-old nephew. Not only did it entertain him, but it caused his older brother to laugh out loud as well. Thanks for the lead on this smart, deceptively simple, entertaining book!

1 von 5 Sternen Not for the 4 to 8 year old category

I purchased this book for my son. After reading the customer reviews, I thought it was a pretty safe purchase. But after receiving it, we quickly found that the story was to easy to figure out and could not keep my son focused. It is a simple story meant to be read to two year olds. I also found the animation sloppy. Others may find it entertaining, it is all a matter of personal tastes. But I do not feel this book belongs in the catagory of 4 to 8 year olds. It is to short and not challenging enough for this age group.
