Virgilio Pinera, one of the great Cuban poets is, along with Lezama Lima, the best representative of the literary generation that came out of the legendary magazine 'Origenes. A seminal author, today his work is revered throughout Latin America and he is considered a legend. The author saw himself, however, as a secret poet, even, ironically, an occasional poet, and he refused to publish his compositions. Reading his verses we can see the greatness of his poetic work, both Baroque and colloquial, essentially centered on the debate between life and literature. In his last stage, Pinera finally comes to value the artist as a supreme creator of something decisive for man.
