Previously scattered, often hard to find, these pieces are of markedly different genres and forms: introductions, rough drafts, book, reviews, poems, speeches, sermons, individual treatises, even student notes and other first-hand reports. In most cases the translations are reprinted in their original forms, with the original introductions and critical and explanatory notes by the translator or other commentator. The editor's introduction puts the pieces into chronological perspective and situates them with respect to Hegel's major works.
