Suzette's uncle, Impressionist painter Edgar Degas, sends a painter named Mary Cassatt to paint a portrait of Suzette and the pup. That painting now hangs in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Among the book's full-color illustrations is a reproduction of the story's painting.
