Chief Vitalstatistix of the little Gaulish village holding out against the Roman legions is horrified to hear that Caesar has called the Belgian tribes, not the Gauls, the bravest he knows. With Asterix and Obelix, the chief goes off to confront the Belgians - who turn out to be very like the Gauls.

Rezensionen von Amazon.de-Kunden
4 von 5 Sternen The Bravest Gauls

The humorous depiction of the adventures of the inhabitants ofone small village in Gaul, (modern day France) which defies romanoccupation in 50 BC with the superhuman power of a magic potion. Its full of beautiful visuals and excellent pun, especially the play of words in conversation and names of characters. Its gentle satire pokes fun on modern life, art and politics with caricatures of Napoleon, Shakespeare, Zorro and even James Bond. A comic that will reach out to kids and adults alike. A must for your collection. I recommend it with gusto!

4 von 5 Sternen Good fun, but there are better adventures

"Asterix in Belgium" is one of the many Asterix adventures that treat a neighbor country of France. Having sufficiently dealt with the Goths, the Brits, the Normans, the Spaniards, the Swiss and the Corsicans, Uderzo and Goscinny now focus their attention on the small country. The French attitude towards the Belgians as subjects for jokes is brilliantly portrayed. One of the strong points of the Asterix series is undoubtedly the use of stereotypical beliefs to create humor. They make a parody of Belgian Cuisine, Belgium's flat landscape and Belgium's national bard Jacques Brel and of the great cartoonist Hergé and his comic characters. Brussels sprouts and Brussels lace are also mentioned. It is true that a lot of national heritage has been incorporated in this book, yet I am not so fond of it as I am fond of "Asterix in Britain" or "Asterix in Spain". The gags do not have the same effect on me. Perhaps they have grown stale with the time moving on. (Dies ist eine Amazon.de an der Uni-Studentenrezension.)
