Within these covers you will find every one of the 210 tales collected by the brothers Grimm. These were stories kept alive by German peasants, the legacy of a vibrant oral tradition, passed down from generation to generation and often preserving hints of a mythology dating back to pre-Christian times.
A great collection....This collection of Grimm fairy tales is a great collection that tries to stick to the original Grimm versions as close as possible. Combining 200 fairy tales, 10 children's legends, an introduction and a folkloristic commentary it is a thorough collection fitting the name "Grimm". It can be used by parents who want to tell their children a story as well as by teachers or scholars. The only point of critic is that it is written relatively small, so it might be hard to read for children or people with visual disabilities. Besides, the lack of pictures is for some people a reason for not using it to read stories to their children.
Anyway, Grimm's fairy tales should be found in every household because they form a basis of all European fairy tales (being translated and "exported" throughout Europe). This collection is an English translation and only enhances the European context of the tales.
