Seitdem Englisch-Unterricht ab der 3. Klasse eingeführt wurde, hat sich auch in der Lehrmethode einiges getan. Die Kinder lernen nicht mehr nur stur Vokabeln auswendig, sondern lernen in einem meist komplett in Englisch gehaltenem Unterricht vielmehr Themengruppen (Zahlen, Tiere, Wochentage etc.) im Sinnverband. Daher eignen sich englischsprachige Kleinkinderbücher hervorragend um den Erstlernern englische Satzstrukturen und eine überschaubare Anzahl von neuen Wörtern nahezubringen.

Zu dem Buch Today is Monday möchte ich anmerken, das es sich zu diesem Zweck nicht besonders gut eignet. Dazu der Text der ersten Seiten: Today is Monday - Monday, string beans;

My Daughter and I love this book. It helps her remember the days of the week. We giggle and laugh and sing out the words. I highly recommend this book for any child just learning to read.

This is cute book that teaches the days of the week with different foods in the form of a story and a song. It also uses different animals and the text is repetitive. Note to teacher: This can be used to teach math skills, different animals ,and foods. The repetitive text builds memory and can implement body movement.

As a native speaker and English teacher I am often asked to visit the primary school to give the children a lesson from an "echte Englanderin".I recently took Today is Monday into the fourth class of a primary "sonder schule".We had great fun and it wasn't difficult to get all the vocabulary together.The most important thing was that the children were active enthusiastic and were having so much fun while learning about the days of the week and food. We also saw that many of the words are already used in the German language-chicken from McDonald's chicken nugets,or roast beef seen in every butcher's shop.If children have fun learning correct English early on without the pressure of grades they will be able to learn better and more easily later.In my opinion an excellent book.
