Appomattox

[636] Appomattox, Grafschaft im nordamerikan. Staat Virginia, aus der der gleichnamige Fluß dem James zufließt, und bei deren Court-house (Gerichtshaus), 35 km östlich von Lynchburg, General Lee 9. April 1865 die Waffen streckte und der Bürgerkrieg ein Ende nahm.
