[1071] Macleod, Sir George Husband Baird, zu Glasgow, 1828 in Campsie, Stirlingshire, Schottland, geb., studierte in Glasgow, London, Paris, Berlin und Wien, wurde 1853 in Glasgow Dr. med., 1857 Fellow des R. C. S. Edin., machte mit der britischen Armee den Krimkrieg mit, war Chirurg des Zivil-Hospitals in Smyrna und des General-Hosp. im Lager vor Sebastopol, verfasste: »Notes on the surgery of war« (Lond. 1858; Philad. 1862), begann seine Praxis in Glasgow 1857, war Prof. der Chir. in Anderson's College daselbst 1859 bis 69 und wurde darauf als Nachfolger von Lister zum Regius Prof. der Chir. an der Univ. Glasgow ernannt. Er war ausserdem Surg. in Ordinary d. Königin in Schottland, Chirurg und chir. Kliniker bei der Western Infirmary (Univ.-Klinik). M. der 31. Aug. 1892 starb, war ein glänzender Lehrer und veröffentlichte: »Outlines of surgical diagnosis« (1864), in Cooper's Surg. Dictionary die Artikel: »Surgical affections of the oesophagus, larynx and pharynx« – »Wounds of the thorax« – »Tracheotomy« – »Ulceration« – »Ulcers« – »Varix« – »Wounds«; ferner in[1072] der Amer. Internat. Encyklop.: »Surgical affections of the neck« und mehrere Zeitschriften-Artikel.
