[846] Tylor (spr. tailör), Edward Burnett, Anthropolog, geb. 2. Okt. 1832 in Camberwell, wurde 1871 Fellow der Royal Society, 1883 Direktor des Universitätsmuseums in Oxford und 1896 Professor daselbst. Auch ist er Präsident der Englischen Anthropologischen Gesellschaft. Er schrieb: »Anahuac, or Mexico and the Mexicans« (Lond. 1861); »Early history of mankind and of civilisation« (1865, 3. Aufl. 1878; deutsch, Leipz. 1866); »Primitive culture: researches into the development of mythology, philosophy, religion, art and custom« (1871, 4. Aufl. 1903, 2 Bde.; deutsch, Leipz. 1873); »Anthropology; introduction to study of man« (1881; deutsch, Braunschw. 1883).
