Pranger
[262] Pranger (Schandpfahl, Schandbühne, lat. Palus infamans), ehedem der Ort, wo Verbrecher, durch ein Halseisen (Halsring) festgehalten, zur Strafe öffentlich zur Schau gestellt wurden. Die Strafe des Prangers, die im ältern deutschen Recht besonders als Nebenstrafe neben verstümmelnden Leibesstrafen vorkam, wurde auch als selbständige Strafe, z. B. beim Felddiebstahl, angewendet.
