[16] Aitken, Sir William, geb. 23. April 1825 zu Dundee, Forfarshire, studierte von 1842–48 in Edinburg, wo er 1848 M. D. wurde, war dann 7 Jahre lang anatom. Prosektor bei der Univers. Glasgow, darauf während des Krimkrieges 1855 pathol. Anatom in Scutari, hierauf Prof. der pathol. Anat. an der Army Medical School zu Netley, Examinator für den Sanitätsdienst der Armee in Indien und der Flotte, Fellow der Royal Soc. und der Sanitary Institution von Gross-Britannien und starb 25. Juni 1892. Er hatte seinen Wohnsitz in Woolstone, H ants, bei Southampton. Litterar.
