Cardenio und Celinde
Die keusche Olympia wendet sich ab von dem allzu ungestümen jungen Spanier Cardenio, der wiederum tröstet sich mit der leichter zu habenden Celinde, nachdem er ihren Liebhaber aus dem Wege räumt. Doch erträgt er nicht, dass Olympia auf Lysanders Werben eingeht und beschließt, sich an ihm zu rächen. Verhängnisvoll und leidenschaftlich kommt alles ganz anders. Ungewöhnlich für die Zeit läßt Gryphius Figuren niederen Standes auftreten und bedient sich einer eher volkstümlichen Sprache. »Cardenio und Celinde« sind in diesem Sinne Vorläufer des »bürgerlichen Trauerspiels«.
