[427] Inseln der Seligen (Mythologie). Tief im Ozean, am westlichen Erdrande dachten sich die Griechen heitere Inseln, auf denen die Seelen der Guten nach dem Tode ihren Aufenthalt finden sollten. Dorthin kamen die Schatten großer Todten, die Götterlieblinge, die der Olymp nicht aufnahm, und in Ruhe und ungetrübter Glückseligkeit genossen sie dort den Lohn eines Lebens nach dem Willen der Gottheit.
